A young tribal stares up into the face of one of the most deadly ponies to storm the Wasteland. If by the slimmest of hopes he survives this night, he will forever bear that burning silhouette etched into his memory.

A picture long owed to my friend :iconleather-duster:
Featuring none other than Murky Number Seven's own Brimstone Blitz back in the old 'glory' days of his once great Raider empire.

Holy moly! O.O

There are surprises from every crevice of each day, it seems, I didn't expect this!

Honestly, you do Brimstone so much justice every time you draw him. From the headshot in the "Dare to Dream" picture through the concept sketches of "Warlords", to said finished piece and now this. There's a certain intimidation you bring to the character. (Or in the case of the headshot, an element of aging regret and full knowledge of what his life consisted of.

I can't help but draw comparison to "Oppresion" with this picture, with the small pony before an indominable force that towers above him. Excellent sense of sheer scale and raw terror. Indeed, the sheer thickness of his hooves is what sells it most, he could almost fit that tribal under it! That was a good choice of scaling, one I really appreciate. :)

Furthermore, the raider on the left, laughing wildly whilst slicing somepony to a cruel end. I can't help but feel that could indeed be Wildcard? Seems crazed enough. I did think Barb from the knife but...well, he wouldn't be so easily captured in image. :p

However, my eye keeps being drawn upwards, the break in the clouds, the one star. I know you too well to know it would just be a random 'thing' with no meaning. So I'm going to put my guess on it. In FOE the clouds represent oppresion and dread upon the land, like a life of cruelty and suffering upon Equestria. A small break in them above Brimstone...holding what could perhaps be described as a glimmer of light, perhaps? Would I be onto something here? ;)

I'm starting to ramble, so I shan't go much longer, but this is a wonderful piece, not just from my obvious bias. The terror, the horror, the scale and perspective, all adds up to one brutal piece that captures the Great Dragon Warlord's time in his prime ooooh so well. I cannot thank Leather-Duster enough for this incredible choice to ask the pic be about this.

Brimstone is definitely good practice on figuring out how larger ponies look and and work. ;)

It seems you do know me rather well. The open patch of sky does indeed hold special meaning. Very rarely I'll toss something in without some sort of purpose.

Thanks!

Now I just need to overcome the raging will to want to write again from seeing images like this. Can't wait till the docs say it's safe for me to do extended periods of typing again.

No problem at all Fuzzy. And Funny you should mention oppression that was one of the pics I wanted to make a comparison to in this xd, sort of showing brim in that position a long time ago. 'sfar as the timeline goes this might be a tad screwy xd but still the image itself I feel is very powerful and by kind of shadowing the raiders and lessening the ammount of details on brim it really helped to capture not only the force of raiders but the helplessness of said tribal...

Now I wanted to have wildcard but I thought for certain reasons it might be best to keep this ambiguous, this is related to a certain character of mine in a way too. Like i said the timeline was kind of screwy in my head. Good of you to mention the stars too xD All I'll say is everything will make sense in time

Fantastic. Brim gives the impression that nothing can stand on his way and those silhuettes on the background really add to the feel of the picture.

Woah, beautiful

Just perfect spot on to make that figure look extra big with that angle from below to give a full sense of being loomed over by such a terrifying figure. Really putting the viewer in the spot of that tiny pony to share their experience. Really well done

And a great big thanks to Fuzzy for pointing me in the right direction for writing and everything, even though alot of thank you's usually incorporate touchy feely pics I think you can appreciate this one for what it is xD The wasteland is a cruel cruel place that creates things equally cruel.

I cannot express in too short words how thankful I am for this from you. As I said in our PM's, I honestly didn't consider it too out of my way to offer any advice or pointers when asked, so I almost feel undeserving. ^^;

Still, you've decided on it and you did it, so I can only say I absolutely love it to bits. Thanks so much.

No problem at all Fuzzy :) I did feel it necessary though, you were the only one that really answered my questions in the way I was looking for and it was kinda getting distressing so I am still very thankful in that regards and happyand happy you like it. One reason perhaps though is sometimes people might have a process and not really be too good at explaining it?...just a possibility. I'm very looking forward to this project of mine coming to fruition

It'll be excellent to see what you make in the end, LD. Believe me though, I am AWFUL at explaining things in words like that. I'm much more a "show don't tell" kind of teacher when I'm teaching my classes. :p
