In the Ruins by MisterMech In the Ruins by MisterMech
A bit of a continuation of the comic seen here -> [link]

Benzy and Clunk go on the search for loot after the zombies have seemingly cleared out. What can they possibly find?

Mostly did this because I really wanted to draw some ancient zebra pictographs.

Man, those are some damn fine ancient zebra pictographs. Really liking the design of the stars and the zebras themselves. The sun and moon aren't looking too bad either.

Are the objects in the background supposed to be blurry, by the way? If so, nice touch.

The blurry part was intentional, yes. I was hoping it would create more focus on the central tablet and create the illusion of depth

I can safely say it worked.

Hmmmm, a powerful being of the universe, controling the sun and moon, part of those stars the zebras do not fully trust

Frightened zebras watching falling stars before an altar, which has something on it that has been removed from the picture. Hmhmmm. A mysterious idol perhaps..

And skulls. The good old symbol of death and mystery, warning or simple respect for the past ancestors.

My, perhaps the leader of those mysterious zombies was looking for a kind of powerful relic, connected to the fall of the stars. Connected to unknown powers of the universe, better left off forgotten

But that's just my take on it ^^

Really liking the mural/pictographs, looking ancient in that creepy kind of way.

Oh oh! Cue the music! Ahem, "Dun da-dun dah. Dah dah dah..."

Have to say I am really digging that pictograph. It manages to convey much of the content from the prophecy of doom made by that crazy zebra from Zebratown while also possibly hinting at the infamous "Maiden of the Stars", but it does so without being overly complicated.

I also get the distinct impression that odd X shaped symbol will be popping again...

Awesome pic as always Mech, hope we'll get to see what happens next!

This can never end well.

Also, I like how Clunk appears genuinely interested in the pictographs. Was this intentional?

It may not have been intentional. Being a pre-war robot, he still has some Anti-Zebra sentiments hardwired into him. xD

Ah, that's it. I thought he was musing over them. Makes him more... equine.

I will only reveal this much. In this case, the warning is very well warranted.

Is the dude that creates the zombies a Starkaterri or whatever their name is? Or was he brought back to life by one?

I'm trying to piece together the style of the Zebra pictograph without cheating and googling things. I like that it hasn't gone the overly Egyptian style (which is so overused in these things it's almost comical) but seems to be much more Aztec or Mayan in style here. South American definitely. Love how you've got that "flat 2D" that the early civilizations were so fond of in their art styles. Like there is no depth to the imagery at all.

That large chunk taken out of it on the right hand side though, just above the four pointed star. That doesn't look quite like natural wear and tear to me...makes me wonder just what's happened down here. It almost looks like an impact mark.

As a last little detail, I love how much weight is in Clunk's pose. Even still I get the sense he'd have a very steady and stiff gait. Maybe it's the animator in me piecing that together from the pose, but I get a lot from it.

Interested to see where this goes. :)

This is why you don't mess with the stars kids.

You know the funny thing is that the Zebra continent in the story is actually part of Equestria, and yet with the recently released maps have indicated otherwise.

Or it's implied they're down in the south passed the badlands.
